I Dream Theater sono un gruppo progressive metal statunitense, fondato nel 1985 a Boston da Mike Portnoy, John Petrucci e John Myung. Nonostante alcuni cambiamenti di formazione, i tre componenti originari sono sempre stati presenti nel gruppo fino all'8 settembre 2010, giorno in cui Mike Portnoy decise di lasciare la band.
